New Houston Police Chief Art Acevedo Discusses Law Enforcement Issues

Art Acevedo at Houston Matters - MHagerty3Mayor Sylvester Turner appointed Art Acevedo as Houston’s new police chief in November. Chief Acevedo has spent over 30 years with law enforcement, including 20 with the California Highway Patrol and most recently ten on Austin’s police force. Now he has become the chief of the country’s fifth-largest police force.

Acevedo faces numerous challenges at the helm of the Houston Police Department, including body cameras on officers, improving relations between police and the communities they patrol, and reducing violent crime.

We talk with the new chief about his plans and what he thinks he can bring to his new role.
