North Forest part 2

North Forest part 2

For years, the North Forest Independent School District has struggled. Just 66 percent of students there finish high school. So, the Texas Education Agency last year ordered that, unless there was significant improvement within the year, North Forest would be closed.

This week, the TEA upheld that decision, and announced North Forest will merge with HISD.

We continue our discussion with Chris Tritico, an attorney representing North Forest, who vows to fight the decision in court. We’re also joined by Morgan Smith, a reporter from the Texas Tribune, who wrote a series on school closings, and has followed not just North Forest’s plight, but also examined what happened to the Wilmer-Hutchins school district, which merged with the Dallas Independent School District in 2006.
