Toll Roads and the Grand Parkway: Friday’s Show (May 15, 2015)

Chances are, at some point, you’ve used some of the 132 miles of toll roads operated by the Harris County Toll Road Authority, from the Westpark Tollway, to the Katy managed lanes, the Sam Houston, and now a toll road to Tomball. There’s more either under construction or in the works.

On this edition of Houston Matters, we learn more about the toll roads we have in Greater Houston, and those we can expect in our future, and welcome your questions for Gary Trietsch, the Executive Director of the Harris County Toll Road Authority.

Then, we turn our attention to the Grand Parkway. Only 41 of the planned 184 miles of the the loop outside the loop outside the loop are open. It’s designed, in part, to help mitigate future congestion in the region. We’ll discuss the Grand Parkway, and welcome your questions for Executive Director David Gornet.

Also this hour: We discuss The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly of this week’s news with our rotating “non-expert” panel. Today, the Houston Chronicle’s Joe Holley, La Voz de Houston’s Aurora Losada, and The Breakfast Klub’s Marcus Davis discuss a new sheriff in town, a new beer in town, and soon-to-be new flights in town.

Plus: A conversation with Better Than Ezra front man Kevin Griffin in advance of his solo gig at Houston’s House of Blues Friday night.
